Intertakt

A taiko group plays at festival volume, and nobody on that stage checks a watch. The drummers' hands are full and their eyes stay forward: time arrives as sound. Short vocal calls - the kakegoe shouts - are thrown over the drums by the players themselves, and those calls, not any clock, tell the whole group when the pattern changes, when the driving section breaks for the quiet one, and when the tempo lifts again. The piece runs on layers: the big drum holds the pulse, the flute carries the line over it, and the human voice rides on top of both, each at its own level. A player who drops a stick does not stop the group - he takes the next count and re-enters exactly on the beat, and the piece goes on from there, not from the top. Intertakt times interval training on that arrangement. HIIT, Tabata, EMOM, office complexes: every round, every rest and every halfway mark is called over your own playlist - voice cues on one channel, countdown beeps on another, music on a third, each at its own volume. The phone goes face-down or into a pocket from the first call, because the session never needs the screen. An incoming call is a dropped stick, not a broken performance: the round survives and re-enters at the exact second it stopped. 0 ads, unlimited sessions, no account.
